The Village of Oak Park charges a fee of 10 cents at the register in retail stores over 5,000 square feet for every store provided plastic and paper bag used. The program is intended to encourage customers to bring their own shopping bags and avoid using single-use, plastic and paper bags.
No fee is charged for persons participating in governmental food assistance programs.
5 cents remains with the retailer and 5 cents goes to support the Village’s sustainability programs.
Reusable bags are always available for free at Village Hall.
