Oak Park first published a village-wide bike plan in 2008, followed by a 2015 Neighborhood Greenways and Bikeshare Plan. The Village initiated a Bike Plan Update process in 2024 that will focus on responding to community feedback and latest design best practices to develop an updated bicycle network. The plan will also assess operational options and feasibility for bikeshare in Oak Park. The Bike Plan Update is coordinated closely with the Vison Zero Plan and will incorporate feedback and ideas already collected as part of that process.
Community and stakeholder engagement play an important role in understanding where residents feel safe cycling currently and where improvements or new routes could make cycling safer and more accessible for all ages and abilities.
