Vision Zero Action Plan presented to Village Transportation Commission
A draft of Oak Park’s Vision Zero Action Plan is being presented to the Transportation Commission for consideration and review at 7 p.m. on Nov. 11 in Council Chambers at Village Hall.
The Vision Zero project team has spent a year engaging with residents and stakeholders, analyzing data and reviewing Village policies in order to create this draft plan. The Village is making a commitment to consistently having zero deaths or serious injuries caused by traffic crashes on its streets by 2035.
The Vision Zero Action Plan outlines a set of 10 strategies with associated action items that set up the Village to achieve this goal. The final plan in anticipated to be brought to the Village Board in 2025 for approval.
The project team is grateful for all of the residents and stakeholders who have provided input and helped shape the plan.
Vision Zero Open House
After gathering feedback from residents, carefully analyzing crash data, hosting discussions with key stakeholders and studying safety challenges in Oak Park, Vision Zero plan recommendations have been drafted. Join the Vision Zero team at this open house to provide feedback on the key strategies and recommendations proposed in the plan. Your feedback will help the team refine these recommendations for the final Vision Zero plan, which is anticipated to be completed this fall.
The Vision Zero Open House will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on July 20 in the Ridgeland Commons Recreational Complex Large Activity Room. Stop by anytime during the open house hours to share your thoughts while enjoying light refreshments, activities for kids, and a chance to win a raffle prize.
Vision Zero at A Day in Our Village
The Vision Zero team will be at A Day in Our Village to discuss traffic safety with the community. A Day in Our Village takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Scoville Park.
Safe Streets Workshop
Do you have ideas for improving traffic safety on Oak Park’s streets? What improvements would make you feel safer as a pedestrian, cyclist, driver or transit user? Join Village staff at the Safe Streets Workshop to share your ideas and learn more about Oak Park’s Vision Zero plan. The open-house style meeting will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 3 in the Rubinstein Room at the Oak Park Conservatory. The event will include crafts for kids, light snacks and beverages, and a raffle for workshop participants.
Community Walkshop
Please join the Village of Oak Park for a Community Evening Walkshop to kick off its Vision Zero initiative on Thursday, October 5, 2023. This meant to be a fun, interactive walking tour to gather feedback about safety concerns in the Village. The tour will begin at 6:45 p.m. outside Village Hall (123 Madison St. Oak Park, IL) and take approximately one hour.
The goal of the walkshop is to have participants out during typical hours related to commuting, evening activities and other walking/biking needs. Dusk and evening hours are the perfect time to understand the experiences residents face in the current infrastructure and the group can experience firsthand some of the opportunities for improvements.
The Oak Park Vision Zero plan strives to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries on Village roadways. The planning process will be collaborative, with a variety of public engagement efforts and an analysis of current safety issues.
