Consultation has concluded
The Village is seeking feedback from the community about a proposal to amend the Village code to allow residents to plant in the parkway adjacent to their properties, and furthermore to promote the planting of native and pollinator plants in the parkway. The parkway is the public property located between the sidewalk and the street curb.
Climate Ready Oak Park, the community climate and sustainability plan, includes a biodiversity commitment to establish 30% of Oak Park’s land as green infrastructure or enhanced park management by 2030, in alignment with the “America the Beautiful” federal initiative. Most plantable land in Oak Park is under private ownership or managed by the Park District of Oak Park. The parkways, which are currently planted with trees and turfgrass, are the primary opportunity for the Village to advance this 2030 biodiversity goal.
